Détail de la visite privée

This private English-guided tour of Budapest is a true one-day city experience. Most of the sightseeing is done on foot to fully enjoy the city’s atmosphere, but we’ll also use public transport, just like the locals.

The program consists of two half-days (detailed below): usually, we explore Pest in the morning and Buda in the afternoon. That said, this tour is 100% flexible: I am happy to adapt to your interests and preferences to create a tailor-made itinerary.

During this full-day tour, I will reserve a table at one of my favorite local restaurants, personally tested, offering excellent Hungarian cuisine at reasonable prices. After all, what better way to discover a country than through its food?

Basic itinerary (customizable)

MorningTour of Pest

The day begins on the Pest side, either at the Gellért Baths or the Central Market Hall, an ideal meeting point to immediately soak up the local atmosphere.

We then walk up Váci Street, a famous pedestrian avenue lined with beautiful façades and cafés, all the way to Vörösmarty Square, one of the iconic spots in the city center.

From there, we follow the Danube promenade (Dunakorzó) to enjoy a splendid view of Buda and stop in front of the Gresham Palace, a masterpiece of Hungarian Secession style.

The majestic St. Stephen’s Basilica will open its doors to us. We will discuss Hungary’s history, the Chapel of the Holy Right Hand, and the unique features of this church built in the shape of a Greek cross.

We continue to Liberty Square (Szabadság tér). In the past, it was home to the Hungarian equivalent of the Bastille, which has since become a site of memory, architecture, and controversy. Today, the square still hosts cultural events and is surrounded by beautiful Art Nouveau buildings.

Next, we arrive at the Hungarian Parliament, one of the largest in Europe. Its statues, neo-Gothic architecture, and location on the banks of the Danube make it one of the city’s most impressive landmarks.

Walking along the river, we will enjoy an exceptional view of the Margaret Bridge, originally built by a French architect. It is one of the best vantage points to admire both sides of Budapest.

AfternoonTour of Buda

The tour begins with a view of the Danube and its banks (a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2002) from the Margaret Bridge. We then arrive at Széll Kálmán Square, the transport hub of Buda, featuring its Post Office Palace. From there, we take the bus to the Buda Castle District, a picturesque old town where every building hides little secrets on its walls.

Upon arriving at Holy Trinity Square, the statue of King Stephen on horseback will greet us, and we will enjoy a magnificent view from the Fishermen’s Bastion, overlooking Budapest’s stunning Matthias Church. After seeing the seven towers, we will approach Buda Castle, passing by hussars. At the entrance to the garden, we will see the Sikló (funicular) and pay a visit to the statue of Prince Eugene of Savoy, hero of Buda’s liberation from the Ottomans.

Once in the courtyard, we will see the fountain featuring the statue of King Matthias hunting (Matthias Corvinus, known as “the Just”). We will descend through the Castle Garden Bazaar and finish in style at the Citadel on Gellért Hill. A bus will take us there, and we will continue on foot to the Liberty Statue. From this point, the most stunning panoramic view of the city will unfold, marking the perfect end to our tour high above Budapest.
